Weekly Fuel Price Report: 22 June to 28 June 2026
Welcome to the FuelRadar weekly fuel report for the week ending 28 June 2026. Across Australia, motorists are experiencing welcome relief at the bowser. Fuel prices have continued a downward trajectory in almost all major markets, driven by favourable international refined product costs and the current phase of the retail price cycle in our largest capital cities. The national average for Unleaded 91 (U91) has dropped to 160.32 cents per litre (cpl), while diesel drivers are also seeing significant price falls nationwide.
Current fuel prices and prediction
- Widespread Price Drops: Almost all capital cities and regional centres recorded falling prices across standard unleaded, premium unleaded, and diesel fuel types.
- Cheapest Capital City: Adelaide currently boasts the cheapest U91 in the country, with an average price of just 150.44 cpl.
- Diesel Relief: Diesel prices have seen substantial reductions. Melbourne and Perth recorded average drops of over 11 to 12 cpl, providing much-needed relief for freight and regional drivers.
- Premium Fuels Following Suit: Premium Unleaded 95 (P95) and Premium Unleaded 98 (P98) are tracking downwards in line with regular unleaded, making it a slightly more affordable week for vehicles requiring higher octane petrol.
- Most Expensive Markets: Canberra (166.71 cpl) and Darwin (164.30 cpl) remain the most expensive capital cities for regular unleaded, though they too are experiencing moderate price reductions.
- Prediction: We expect prices in major eastern seaboard capitals to continue falling or stabilise at these lower levels in the coming week before the next retail price cycle begins to push prices upward.

Looking Ahead
As we move into July, our analysts predict that the current discounting phase in major capital cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane will reach its bottom within the next one to two weeks. Motorists in these centres should take advantage of the current low prices to fill up, as the retail price cycle will inevitably turn, leading to a sharp spike in petrol prices.
For regional areas and smaller capitals such as Hobart, Canberra, and Darwin—which do not follow a traditional price cycle—we anticipate a continued, albeit slower, decline in prices as older wholesale stock is replaced with cheaper fuel. Diesel prices are expected to remain on a steady downward trajectory over the next three to four weeks, providing ongoing relief for the transport sector and regional motorists.
