How a price drop is detected and how cycles work

A "price drop" means the station's last reported U91 price is at least 3c per litre lower than its previous listing, ranked by size of the move. The list updates as new reports arrive.

How the figures are checked

Prices, timestamps and cycle estimates use the reporting sources listed below.

  • Drops are ranked by size, not absolute price. A station near the cycle peak that drops 10c is often still dearer than a quieter station that hasn't moved.
  • Pair this list with the fuel map to see if cheaper-than-average alternatives are within driving distance before chasing a headline drop.
  • Changes are ranked by the retailer’s reported bowser-change time, not when FuelRadar received the update. This keeps slower Victorian and WA reporting schedules from shifting the apparent change time.
  • Listings update as supported state programs, retailer reports and station reports change. LPG and diesel often cycle on a different rhythm to unleaded.
