What FuelRadar detects
FuelRadar compares each service station with its own previous daily Unleaded 91 report. A brand movement is recorded when at least eight stations can be compared, at least five stations and 35% of the sample fall by 10c/L or more on the same local date, and the following day is checked for a broad rebound. The page names the stations counted, the share that moved and the average size of the change. It does not claim that a retailer coordinated the move or explain why it happened.
Why a same-brand price window can matter
A broad fall can make one retailer unusually competitive for a short period. Check the current station report before driving because the signal is a state-level pattern, not a promise that every store changed or that the lowest price remains available. When a following-day rebound is confirmed, compare the average rebound with the litres you need and any offer limit.
How the 7-Eleven Fuel Price Lock cap affects a rebound
7-Eleven's published Fuel Price Lock terms state that the maximum saving is 25c/L for up to 150 litres and that a locked price is automatically increased when the pump-price difference exceeds that cap. If FuelRadar observes an average next-day rebound above 25c/L, the page shows the part of that average move above the cap. That is arithmetic from the observed sample and the published limit. Eligibility, the local price used by the app and the pump price still depend on 7-Eleven's terms and the store.
How other fuel brands are checked
The detector runs across every standardised brand with enough same-grade station history. It uses the same thresholds for each brand and state. A signal is omitted when the sample is too small, dates are missing or too few stations make the move. FuelRadar keeps unconfirmed falls separate from falls followed by a measured next-day rebound.
What to do when a signal appears
- Open the brand or local fuel page and select the exact fuel grade.
- Check the station price and update time before leaving.
- Compare nearby brands because a state-level movement may not make this station the cheapest on your route.
- If you use a price lock or loyalty offer, read the current terms and calculate the final eligible price.
- Confirm the price at the bowser.
Data limits
The detector uses reported prices, so missing station days reduce the comparable sample. It measures association in price reports and cannot identify a retailer's intent, commercial strategy or reason for a change. A brand-wide average can also hide local differences. Current station reports remain the final check.
